PricewaterhouseCoopers has today elected Ian Powell as its new chairman and senior partner with effect from 1 July 2008. He succeeds Kieran Poynter and will lead over 16,000 partners and staff at the £2.1bn fee income firm.

The 55-year-old has been a partner with the firm for 17 years and has held numerous leadership roles during that time, including head of business recovery services. In 2005 he was administrator of MG Rover and advised stakeholders on high profile restructurings such as Marconi, NTL and Drax.

Powell said: ‘The opportunity to lead our thriving business is hugely exciting and I look forward to building on the great work done by Kieran Poynter in developing trust and confidence in our firm.'

Poynter added: ‘Ian will be taking the reins at a time of great opportunity and when the firm is in excellent shape to take advantage of those opportunities.'
