Deloitte Financial Advisory Services LLP (Deloitte FAS) announced today that it has acquired certain assets of Barrasso Consulting LLC (Barrasso), a firm specializing in planning and executing litigation discovery programs, to further enhance Deloitte FAS' existing national Forensic & Dispute Services practice.

This strategic acquisition expands Deloitte FAS' existing suite of services offered to companies and counsel related to disputes and investigations. As a result of this transaction, Deloitte FAS completes the continuum of services that it already offers: from discovery (including all aspects of electronic discovery), to document review, through complex forensic investigations and analyses, to final deliverables.

Based in Westfield, N.J., Barrasso Consulting was founded in 1989 by Diane Barrasso. The firm specializes in electronic and hard copy data collection and document review, which allows companies to organize files and respond more quickly and efficiently in the event of litigation.

"Advances in business technologies have made it easier and less expensive for companies to create, share and keep information throughout their organization. At the same time, the sheer volume of this information makes preservation, review and collection of documents in a complex business dispute or regulatory investigation a considerable task. Acquiring Barrasso Consulting will enhance our existing suite of discovery services and our ability to help our clients in this challenging area." said Frank Piantidosi, chairman and chief executive officer of Deloitte FAS.

As part of the transaction, Barrasso Consulting will be fully integrated within Deloitte FAS' Forensic & Dispute Services practice as a new service line, called Document Review Services. Approximately 80 Barrasso Consulting professionals will form the foundation of this new service line, including Barrasso founder and president Diane Barrasso. Barrasso will join Deloitte FAS as a principal and national service line leader of the Document Review Services team. Jean Weir, a senior manager with Barrasso, will join as a director.

"We're extremely pleased to have Diane Barrasso and her team join us. They have built a successful, growing business with a proven client service track record in document preservation, review and collection, which will be a tremendous complement to our existing Forensic & Dispute Services practice," said Greg Swinehart, national leader of Deloitte FAS' Forensic & Dispute Services practice.

"Deloitte FAS has been a leader in the forensic and dispute marketplace and we are thrilled to become part of this world class organization," said Barrasso. "We look forward to working with our new colleagues and tapping into the deep industry knowledge, technical expertise and global network of Deloitte FAS."

Diane Barrasso has 19 years of litigation process management experience. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Lehigh University and a Ph.D. from the Waksman Institute of Rutgers University and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Barrasso has been an elected member of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, since 1983.
