Global consultancy organisation PriceWaterhouseCoopers is expanding its India operations through launching more centres of excellence, adding two more centres and aiming to double its Indian headcount within next three years.

The Chairman and Head of Indian operations of PwC in India, Mr N. Ramesh Rajan, told Business Line that the firm is growing at over 35-40 per cent a year and is poised to widen the services portfolio for its clientele in India apart from stepping up services for global clients.

The firm operates in 145 countries employing over 1.5 lakh people, and of them about 5,000 plus are in India in areas of auditing, taxes, regulatory and advisory.

The company now has eight offices. It is in the process of adding two more in Ahmedabad and Kochi.

“As a firm that provides a wide range of consultancy services, we see immense opportunities in India both for multinational companies setting up their bases in India and domestic companies going global,” he said. “The India headcount would seem relatively smaller when compared to the global numbers. However, within three years, we expect to double this up. We may even consider some more buyouts,” he said.

“We now have several centres of excellence in India focussing on technology and auditing practice relating to e-Governance, IT services and plan to add more such centres. Apart from that, we have a large tax practice in the country and continue to work with corporates offering them consultancy services,” he said.

“As companies adopt international accounting standards and converge towards a standard approach, we see significant opportunities. India has given a commitment to move towards international standards by 2011,” Mr Rajan said.
