In a bid to grow its consulting business in India, Deloitte has decided to ramp up its manpower. It has just transferred four top-level professionals from Deloitte's UK, US and Canada operations to India. It has also asked another dozen-odd Deloitte stalwarts to relocate to India.

The people transfers will focus on consulting operations in human capital, technology, actuarial services, M&A and financial services. The four senior people who've been transferred include Anil Joshi (to spearhead the financial services practice), Mohd. Asif (business intelligence), Ashwin Assomoul (for M&A) and Seema Nandy (for SAP).

Confirming the development, Deloitte Consulting India Managing Director Roopen Roy said: "The firm is in the process of beefing up its manpower strength in India.

"Another 12 people currently working in Deloitte's global operations have been identified and will soon shift to India. These professionals will bring in the latest practices for us." Deloitte Consulting has recently acquired key talent from top consulting firms here. Though Mr Roy declined to name the firms, he said: "We have completed lateral recruitment of nearly 50 people over the last six months from global consulting biggies."

While there are 100 people dedicated for servicing Indian clients, Deloitte Consulting has now started using its 2,500-strong talent pool based out of its offshore sites in Mumbai and Hyderabad. "People at the off-shore centres have worked on projects for our global clients. Hence, they have skills which will help us to widen our practice in the domestic market," Mr Roy told ET.

Deloitte Consulting started its technology practice some nine months back in India and bagged some big-ticket projects from the likes of Bajaj Electricals, HTMT Global Solutions, Sail and Coal India.
